There are a multitude of places in Cape Town that brew, and they are only too happy to share their beers with fellow craft brew enthusiasts.
On the City Tour we will visit a variety of these breweries to view the brewing set-up and sample a number of their brews.
The breweries that we visit are largely in the historic Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory areas. Sites to be visited will be chosen based on what’s on-tap and current opening opening times, but will include a selection from:
- Beerworks – up to 16 small-batch, individually brewed beers on tap
- 4 Degrees Brewery and Taphouse – a small brewery in trendy Salt River. One of the closest breweries to the CBD
- Woodstock Brewery – modern brewery situated on the Woodstock beer route
- Shackleton Brewing Company – popular brewery and Tap Room in a new premises in Paarden Eiland
- Spinal Tap Beer Bar - no brewery here, but an interesting variety of beers hand-selected by the owner
Starting at around 12h00, we meet at Beerworks at the Yard in Salt River*. It's a short Uber ride from most parts of the city.
After a taster or two, our route will include a number of stops not too far from the city centre, taking in the sights along the way. In addition to learning more about the craft brew scene you will see some of the hidden gems of Cape Town as we go off the beaten track.
Between the first stop at around 12h30 and the final stop at 16h00 we will visit three or four breweries where we can view the workings of the brewery (and if we are lucky, we’ll see a brew in progress) and taste a range of beers. You will have the opportunity to taste between four and six beers at each stop.
Arriving back at Beerworks at approximately 16h45 you can depart by Uber for a short trip back to your accommodation.
All timings are subject to change and venues will be determined on the day of the Tour.
*For an additional fee, we can pick you up from your accommodation in the CBD (or any other place by prior arrangement).
The City Tour includes:
- Three or four brewery stops with a tour of the brewery and tastings at each one. Tastings vary between four and six styles.
- A personal craft brewer and tour guide (all rolled into one!).
- Private transport on the Tour route in air-conditioned vehicle (size dependent on numbers on tour) with qualified driver.
Cost is R 850 per person** (no minimum, we will run the Tour for one person if necessary).
No food is included in the tour cost. However, food is available at many of the breweries (for own account).
Transport to and from Beerworks will be for you own account.
** Payment can be made with a credit or debit card using our mobile POS device, or with cash.
The Tour also has the option of visiting the SAB Newlands Brewery – the oldest in South Africa. As well as the mega-brewery operation you will find a small craft beer operation (Newlands Spring) and have a chance to taste beers from both.
*Option to pick up at 11h00 and visit SAB Newlands Brewery before lunch. A late lunch can then be enjoyed at one of our brewery stops (own account).
If the SAB Newlands Brewery option is chosen then add R 195 per person. This includes a one-hour guided tour and beer tasting.
